The Study

Well I have been at the hospital for an hour and I am already a little bored. I thought it might be fun to journal this whole experience. Don't feel pressured to read this. It is more for my own amusement.

This whole crazy scheme started a few months ago when Dan noticed a sign advertising the opportunity to be in a research study and of course make a lot of money. (Why else would you do it?) Now I am in the Duke Clinical Research Unit at the hospital sharing a room with someone I just met. As I got ready today for this weekend I realized I don't know a lot of the details about this whole thing. Of course, I got a consent form and read it and signed it, but it doesn't give the important details, like what am I going to eat while I am here?

I got here at 4pm like they asked leaving Parker with Dan for the whole weekend. I have never left Parker for more than a half day. I don't worry about his safety or anything. Dan is an amazing father, but Parker is my life now. I definitely feel the void of not have a 19 month old following me around asking me to read books or get him some "goose" (=juice).

I am going to try and enjoy this whole experience though. Who doesn't want to have their belongings searched through to be put in a room with a complete stranger and told not to leave. That is all I know. Oh and some time I will have a virus shot into my nose (or fingers crossed, a placebo) and then every so many hours I will have some blood drawn and have to do a nasal wash. I just keep telling myself that this is a nice little break. I get to watch movies and read books nonstop until Monday morning. Let the fun begin!
