We made a quick family trip to Washington DC in June 2016. We explored the National Air and Space Museum at the airport. This was a first for all of us and definitely a hit for both the kids and mom/dad. No crowds, air conditioning and an amazing collection of historic and modern places/space craft. The highlight was seeing the real Discovery Space Shuttle up close. Amazing to see the individual tiles and the wear from multiple space missions. We stayed in a hotel and the kiddos enjoyed swimming and hotels breakfasts. The second day we went to the National Mall. We had bus passes and made the loop to visit many of the monuments that we had not seen on previous trips. We made it into the National Archives to see the original Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Parker loves D.C. and history so he was in heaven. Overall the kiddos did very well but of course were exhausted by all of the walking. On our last day we visited the Washington DC temple and visitors center. We then partook in a classic D.C. traffic jam trying to get back to Durham (all part of the D.C. experience!)
