For our annual Memorial Day camping trip we went to Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia. We were able to talk some friends into going with us, the Harts and the Lewis'. The weather forecast did not look too promising, but it turned out to be a great weather and a great trip! The Park is pretty incredible with amazing views of the Appalachian mountains (the Appalachian trail passes through the park), huge boulders, and roaring rivers. The campground was great with a fun camp store and a big field with swings for the kids to play on. The kids had a lot of fun playing with their friends. We went on 2 good hikes. The first was the Rhododendron trail leading to the AT and a huge rock formation. After some searching we found the famed Grayson Highlands wild ponies. We also did the challenging Wilson Creek trail which included wading in the cascading river and a natural water slide. Dan took a good fall but fortunately was able to walk out on his own power! On the way there we also visited Stone Mountain State Park.
